Mohamed Hamza/Painter
|
|
Introduction
Mohamed Hamza was born in Sudan in 1966. From
1986-89 he studied in the College of Fine and Applied Art in Khartoum
Sudan. Before coming to Britain in 1990 he has exhibited throughout
Sudan and Europe. Since settling in Cardiff, South Wales. Hamza has
continued to paint and exhibit widely. Founder of Hamza Studio and
co-founder of African, Arab & Contemporary Arts.
Trained in Western techniques, his work brings together elements
from Eastern and Western cultures, emphasizing both similarities
and differences. Committed to depicting aspects of reality-both
Sudanese and Western - Hamza draws on life he sees around him
as well as themes from myth and literature. Hamza has no desire
consciously to imitate any particular western style. He acknowledges
the importance of movement in his work. His attention to detail
expressed through the application of translucent, jewel-like colours
invokes for him an openness and freedom of spirit.
Having completed a master-class with painter Harry Holland. Hamza
recent work specialising in portraiture, expressing a fine sense
of balance and deep understanding of figure form. His paintings
have a tranquil quality imbued with warmth and understanding of
human nature. In embracing both Sudanese and Western culture bonds
and unites the two different worlds and creating a new third space
which is neither one nor the other.
